God hears our prayers, always.
Gods’s not going to respond to our prayers like a genii, and give us all we wish. We cannot avoid the consequences of our past choices, but He will do all He can for our best good when we humble ourselves and turn to Him.
It’s because of Abinadi’s prophecy here, that King Limhi later tells Ammon, that he and his people had brought upon themselves their troubles and bondage to the Lamanites. (See Mosiah 21) But I love how we later see although they were not completely freed from the consequences of their wicked rebellion against God, He strengthened King Limhi’s people to withstand their burdens, and when they turned to Him in prayer and humble repentance, Heavenly Father began to soften the hearts of the Lamanites.
4 And it shall come to pass that I will smite this my people with sore afflictions, yea, with famine and with pestilence; and I will cause that they shall howl all the day long. 5 Yea, and I will cause that they shall have burdens lashed upon their backs; and they shall be driven before like a dumb ass.
