Taking a Mental Vacation in the Superstore

I made tried to make sourdough bread today. I have not had such an epic bread fail in years. I ended up with three glutinous bricks which could have held their own against any infamous fruit cake in a density contest. Hello, Trashcan. I’m still not sure what went wrong. At any rate, I ended up at the bread store so that my family would have something to make sandwiches on for lunch tomorrow.

After the Bread Fail I thought it might be a good idea to take care of some of the family and Christmas shopping. I stood in the middle of the big superstore staring at my list and drawing a complete blank about where to go in the store to find anything. I wandered around trying to match my requirement for cat food to some sort of internal GPS and feeling as though I was having an episode of dementia. Finally I decided to just give up and go somewhere else with a more familiar layout. As I walked to the front of the store, suddenly everything clicked into place and I knew exactly where everything was. Great. It only took me 40 minutes of wandering around before I could have a store map re-register in my brain as “important information”. Seriously though, in China, there are entire malls full of intricate mazes of shops to get lost in and a lot of those malls are the same size as some of these “superstore” places. It’s no wonder my brain took a vacation for a little while.

Unfortunately, due to this little “mental lapse”, I lost valuable time and have to finish my errands tomorrow. By the way, if I bump into you also taking care of last-minute shopping tomorrow, please be understanding if your name is something my brain decides to take a vacation from remembering. The green smoothies are doing wonders for me, but to expect better-than-new performance from my brain in less than a week is a tall order even for someone perfect at green smoothie nutrition, which I am not.

Merry Christmas!

winner-winner, chicken dinner 🙂
