Don’t Act All Hangry and Call It Fasting

We are building a gym shed. (Because where else do you go when you want to work out?) My daughter, Meigi is a boss when it comes to using power tools.

Today’s scripture thought. I hope you are reading! ☺️ This is from the Sermon on the Mount Redux (Jesus taught the Nephites in the Americas the same things he taught in Jerusalem. Consistency, go figure. 😉)

Honestly I think this one is just HARD to do. He’s saying here, “Don’t act all hangry when you fast. It just does no one any good.” But it’s so easy to just want to tell everyone to shut it, y’all.

3 Nephi 13 “16 Moreover, when ye fast be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face; 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/13?verse=16-18&lang=eng#p16

  1. Fasting can be tough. I actually do Intermittent Fasting these days for other health reasons, and there are times I just want to chew through anyone who gets in my way. One thing that I recently discovered that helps me is to realize that my body has plenty of “extra food” it’s carrying around. I logically know that I’m not in any danger of going into starvation mode. Then when my stomach starts rumbling around, I realize that it’s not my body asking for food (it’s got plenty already), it’s a green-prickled, greedy monster that hides out inside my stomach who’s throwing a temper tantrum demanding food. For some odd reason, it’s a lot easier for me to tell that monster no than it is to tell my body no. And then after a little while, the hunger noises quiet down. Sounds weird, I know, but maybe it will help you or someone else to make fasting days a little easier. We don’t have to feed the monster. We can tell it to sit in the corner and be quiet – or ignore it.

    Have a beautiful day!
