This Is Yesterday’s Post: Lost in My Novel & Fake Target Sale

I had planned to post this yesterday, but I got wipe-out tired by 8:30 p.m. and just couldn’t get it done. That’s why, now that it’s 5:00 a.m., I’m wide awake and writing this blog. I don’t understand and it’s not fair that Mr. Hot Stuff can go to bed late and get up early on a regular basis and function just fine, while I, on the other hand, must have seven to nine hours of sleep a night in order to even function. The dumb thing is, much of the time I can’t get more than seven because my body wakes me up. Sleep in? Oh, no. That is also an ability and privilege reserved for my children and Mr. Hot Stuff.

What Happened to the Rest of It?

At the library yesterday, I was working on The Book (the one I wrote that still has no title), and I was writing along, doing a complete re-write of the beginning pages and opening of the story. I paused for a moment to reread some of what I’d been writing and when I got to the end of what I’d written, I was so into my story that I was still trying to scroll down in order to read what came next and wondering where the rest of it went. Then suddenly I realized, duh, you have to write it before you can read it. Go figure. This is not the first time this has happened to me, but it’s the most thorough time it’s happened.

On Sale, Just for You

I was shopping for some glass containers with plastic lids like these at Target, and there were special tags by them all that said, “On Sale for a Limited Time”. I specifically wanted the two-cup sized containers and the sale tag said they were $8.99. This was higher than I wanted to pay and it made me wonder what the regular price was. I slid the sale tag to the side to reveal the regular tag. Lo and Behold – the regular price was $6.99. For a moment I felt I was back in China where the vendors see a Westerner enter the shop and the prices of all the goods go up by 50%. Then they offer a “special deal just for you” and, if you are as smart and stubborn as Miss Sassy, you can bargain the price back down somewhere close to what the locals will pay. I found myself wanting to find a manager and ask to pay the regular price instead of the “sale” price. What I actually did was laugh, write it in my blog notebook and then head up the road to Shopko, where I got the same product on real sale for $3.99 each. Pffft to Target for this one.

winner-winner, chicken dinner 🙂

  1. I hate when Target does stuff like that. 🙂

Good luck with your untitled book! May you find the title it needs before you need to have one. One of the worst times of my writing life was trying to find a title for a novel after it was written and ready for submission… talk about pressure! 🙂
